This is not a review of Padraic Colum's work - This is a review of this particular publisher. The book indicates it was published by Feather Trail Press in San Bernardino. After a little research I realized that this was a self-published version of this book through Amazon's "Create Space" publishing company. BUYER BEWARE of shoddy work!! If you homeschool your children and want to teach them about grammar you could buy these books and have them review the books for errors.

Apparently I now have to watch the books I purchase very cautiously because any ole hack can now publish books that are in the public domain. Now that I am almost done reading this book aloud I realize that there may be more than typographical errors as many parts of the book were quite awkward reading (missing commas? missing parts of sentences?)

Examples of egregious typos:
Second "part" was titled Part I The Return to Greece (rather than Part II The Return to Greece)
In the story of The Battle of the Frogs and the Mice, the name of the frog was Puff Jaw. His name was written twelve times. Of those twelve times, it was spelled "Puff jaw" seven times.

This brings back a lot High school memories in homework and the different type life style, time and action of the period that mankind live in. The entertainment and the theater to tell the stories to the masses.
I rated this book a 5 because I love Greek Mythology and this was a very well written book.
If you read this then read The Adventures Of Odysseus And The Tales Of Troy.
I highly recommend Padraic Colum. All of the books starting with the Norse mythology book (I forgot the name) have been intriguing and hard to put down. Hopefully this helped you.
good book great shape and arrived on time which what I'm looking for!!!!!!!!
Beautifully rendered into poetic but clear language...stunning, absolutely classic illustrations. All gods & heroes are given their Greek, not Roman names. Really great grounding for classical references encountered throughout literature, and for that matter, in science, too.

I used to have to force my 9yo to read anything over 100pgs. This book held his interest so much, he begged to read it. His older brother also had an anxiety attack while waiting for the book. He couldn't stand watching his little brother enjoy a book so much. The book is wriiten at a seventh grade level, but my then 4th grader enjoyed every minute of it! I have to admit, my boys were already deeply into Greek mythology, so that has a lot to do with the fact that i didn't have to encourage them to read it.
I used this text as a daily reader for my son (5th grade homeschooler at the time of the writing). He did not dread the reading and was able to compose brief synopses of what he read. In addition, the rendition is accurate, though some details are left out due to the age of the target audience.
This is the wonderful retelling on the voyage of Jason and the Argonaunts, the heroes that accompanied Jason on the perilous voyage to find and bring the Golden Fleece to Iolcus. It is also the history of the of the gods and the first ages of men from the Titans to the Olympians, and the age of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze men. Many famous stories of the Greek gods are told in the adventurous tell of Jason and his heros Orpheus, Tiphys, Nauplius, Arcas, Atalanta, Nestor, Peleus, Telamon, Admetus, Zetes, Calais, Hercules, and Theseus. The story begins when Jason is born and sent by his father, AEson, to be raised by the centaur, Chiron, on Mount Pelion, when the kingdom is rent from AEson, by his cruel brother, Pelias. As Jason grows into a handsome and strong youth, he returns to Iolcus to reclaim the kingdom for his father, but is tricked by his evil Uncle Pelias to launch a task from which his uncle believes he will never return. Jason and his heroes will visit many strange lands and sail many treacherous waters performing heroic tasks before they are to return to Greece. The stories of the survivors who live to return to Greece are also told following their return with the Golden Fleece. For more modern young readers of the Percy Jackson series, there is an introduction written by Rick Riordan, explaining his love for this book and how it led to him creating the modern Percy Jackson series originally for tales for his children. Soon he became the famous author of the Percy Jackson series with many best sellers, and launched a modern interest in the tales of Greek Mythology. If you enjoy Percy Jackson, you will love learning background information from the original myths passed down from Greece to our modern times and recorded by Padraic Colum in 1921. The movie "Jason and the Argonauts" was produced in a 1963 film that was played again and again on television. This is a very special book that brings Greek Mythology to life.
